Stained Glass Windows at Tippett's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Clayton, NC

In 2007, Laws Stained Glass Studios provided (15) opalescent glass windows for Tippett's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Clayton, NC. The fourteen sanctuary windows (size 35" wide x 84" high) did not contain artwork or a memorial plate and neither did the small window (32" wide x 45" high).

These windows had a phenomenon that we encounter more often than you would imagine. The outside shape of the window is different than the inside shape. On the outside, the brick opening is a gothic-topped shape (curved to a point). On the inside, the wood casing is square. Many times, churches will add a brick veneer to their building years after the wooden structure was built. So, for this design, we made the design to match the gothic top.

The leaded windows were installed into the existing wood frame on the inside, which is square-topped. On the outside, Laws installed 1/4" Lucite acrylic as the protective covering and it was held in place with (2) rows of 1/2" x 1/2" white aluminum stop. It was made the shape of the outside brick opening.

Opalescent glass windows set into the existing wood frame. Note how the shape at the top matches the brick opening on the outside. Note how the opalescent glass in the top corners is dark because it does not have light shining through it.
